Educational Resources

The educational resources listed on this web page are designed to increase national awareness and provider education on the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program for the Non-Contract Supplier and Referral Agent Community. Bidding and Contract Suppliers should utilize the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) website as their primary source of program information (see link the in "Related Links Outside CMS" section below).

Referral Agent Letter

In December 2010, CMS mailed a letter to referral agents in Competitive Bidding Areas (CBAs) to remind them that the program started on January 1, 2011. For purposes of the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program, "referral agent" includes such entities as Medicare enrolled providers, physicians, treating practitioners, discharge planners, social workers, and pharmacists who refer beneficiaries for services in a CBA. To view a copy of this letter, please visit the downloads section below.

National Provider Calls

Throughout the implementation of DMEPOS Competitive Bidding, CMS will be hosting a variety of national education calls that will inform the provider community of the steps that they need to take in order to be ready for implementation. These calls will also give participants an opportunity to ask questions of CMS subject matter experts.  Please see the downloads section below.
