  • The Medicare Overpayment Collection Process (revised July 2010) (previously titled What Physicians and Other Suppliers Should Know About Medicare Overpayments), which provides the definition of an overpayment and information about the collection of Medicare physician and supplier overpayments, is now available in downloadable format.   • Revised. The UB-04 Overview Fact Sheet. This fact sheet reviews the UB-04 paper claim form, also known as the Form CMS-1450, which is only accepted from institutional providers who are excluded from the mandatory electronic claims submission. It includes background information, the transition period and a crosswalk. To view the document, please click the link in the Downloads section below. Hardcopies will be available at a later date.   • The Medicare Secondary Payer Fact Sheet (MSP), for Provider, Physician, and Other Supplier Billing Staff (revised May 2010), provides a general overview of the MSP provisions for individuals involved in the admission and billing procedures at provider, physician, and other supplier settings.   • JUST RELEASED – Podcast – Reminder to Medicare Fee-For-Service Providers of Claims Submission Deadline. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an MLN podcast, "New Maximum Period for the Submission of Medicare Claims", to re-emphasize the importance of reminding providers of the current claim submission deadline. Effective immediately, any Medicare Fee-For-Service claim with a date of service on or after January 1, 2010, must be received by a Medicare contractor no later than one calendar year (12 months) or Medicare will deny the claim.   • The revised National Provider Identifier Tip Sheet: Guidance for Organization Health Care Providers Who Apply for National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) for Their Health Care Provider Employees is now available on the CMS website. This resource details the steps an organization that is a health care provider should take when applying for an employee's NPI, on an individual record-by-record basis. Available in PDF format, the fact sheet may be downloaded or printed from the "Education Resources" section of the NPI web pages at http://www.cms.gov/NationalProvIdentStand/04_education.asp on the CMS website.
  • The Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) Physicians and Non-Physician Practitioners: Protecting Your Privacy – Protecting Your Medicare Enrollment Record advises FFS physicians and non-physician practitioners on how to ensure their enrollment records are up-to-date and is now available in downloadable format from the Medicare Learning Network.   • The CMS Website Wheel has been revised and can now be ordered through the Medicare Learning Network. The CMS Website Wheel is an informational resource that provides a variety of CMS Medicare related websites.   • The Medicaid Coverage of Medicare Beneficiaries (Dual Eligibles) At a Glance provides general information and provider education on how to bill when a beneficiary has Medicare and Medicaid coverage.
  • The Medicare Appeals Process brochure provides an overview of the Medicare Part A and Part B administrative appeals process available to providers, physicians and other suppliers who provide services and supplies to Medicare beneficiaries, as well as details on where to obtain more information about this appeals process.  (Posted January 28, 2010)
  • The Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program (E-Prescribing) Web-based Training Course is now available - The course provides information to physicians, health care professionals, and medical administrative staff on the completion, submission and maintenance of the documentation required to successfully participate in Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and Electronic Prescription Incentive (E-Prescribing) programs. The course offers continuing education credits; please see the course description page for the details. To access the course, select the web-based training modules link in the "Related Links Inside CMS" section. Once on the web-based training module page, select the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative and Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program WBT from the list provided.
  • Revised: In August 2002, HHS adopted specific modifications to the HIPAA Privacy Rule to clarify that incidental disclosures do not violate the Privacy Rule when providers and other covered entities have common sense policies which reasonably safeguard and appropriately limit how protected health information is used and disclosed.
