The MLN Matters® Articles Search Tips page contains an Advance Search function that will search the MLN Matters® directories for articles issued between 2004 and the current year. To view this function, scroll to "Related Links Inside CMS" and click on "Search MLN Maters Articles." How to use the individual search functions: From the top of the "Advance Search" page, use the filters to establish criteria for your search results. - With all of the words – results will contain all of the words entered. For example, if three words are entered (such as durable medical equipment) and all three words are present, in any order, the search engine will return a result.
- With the exact phrase – the exact phrase must be present to return a result.
- With at least one of the words – any of the words entered will return a result. For example, if the user enters "provider services" either 'provider' or 'services' needs to be present to return a result.
- Without the words – excludes any MLN Matters® Articles that contain the words entered in the text box. For example, if the user wants all articles related to ESRD with the exception of billing instructions, the user would enter "ESRD" in the "with the exact phrase" text box and "billing instructions" in the "without the words" text box.
- Language – Self-explanatory.
- File Format – Self-explanatory.
- Occurrences – the user can search for information (1) anywhere in the page; (2) in the title of the page; or (3) in the URL of the page.
- Domain – Self explanatory.
- Sort – the user can either (1) sort by relevance, or (2) sort by date.
Page-Specific Search: - Links – Enter a URL to get a list of pages that link to a specific URL. For example, if the user enters "http://www.cms.gov/MLNMattersArticles/" there would be three results: CMS Headquarters; CMS Leadership; and About CMS. TIP: When searching for links, avoid page designators (such as, 02_about-us.asp) since they may not return all pages that link to that particular section.
