Implementation and Closeout Handbooks

The attached handbooks have been developed by the CMS Medicare Contractor Management Group for use by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and Legacy contractors (i.e. carriers and intermediaries) who are participating in a Medicare workload transition.   Listed below are the 4 handbooks and the purpose of each:

Legacy to MAC Implementation 02/02/12

This handbook details a MAC's implementation activities and requirements for the transfer of a Medicare workload from a legacy contractor

Legacy Closeout 02/14/12

This handbook provides information on the closeout activities and requirements of a carrier/intermediary when it is transferring Medicare workload to an incoming MAC.

MAC to MAC Implementation 01/30/12

This handbook details a Part A/Part B or DME MAC's implementation activities and requirements for the transfer of a Medicare workload from a Part A/Part B or DME MAC whose jurisdiction contract is ending.

MAC Closeout 03/01/12

This handbook provides information on the closeout activities and requirements of a Part A/Part B or DME MAC when it is transferring Medicare workload and functions to a new Part A/Part B or DME MAC.
