The Round 1 Rebid contracts for mail-order diabetic supplies ended on December 31, 2012, so information about the Round 1 Rebid mail-order diabetic supplies product category no longer applies.

The educational resources listed on this web page are designed to increase national awareness and provider education on the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program for the Non-Contract Supplier and Referral Agent Community. Bidders and Contract Suppliers should use the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) website as their primary source of program information (see link the in "Related Links Outside CMS" section below).

Please note:  Unless otherwise noted, the fact sheets listed below relate to Round 1 Rebid only. We are in the process of releasing fact sheets that include information related to Round 2 and the national mail-order program. To be notified of when these fact sheets are released, as well as to receive other important competitive bidding announcements, just sign-up above for the Referral Agent or e-News listservs above to stay informed.

  • The "DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program: A Better Way for Medicare to Pay for Medical Equipment" is designed to provide education on the Round 1 Rebid and Round 2 of the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program. It includes an overview of the program, how the program benefits beneficiaries, and lists of product categories and competitive bidding areas affected by those two rounds of the program.  Updated January 2013 to include Round 2 and the national mail-order program.
  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Fact Sheet for Referral Agents – is designed to provide education on Round 1 Rebid and Round 2 of the DMEPOS competitive bidding program.  It includes information for health care providers who order or refer items of DMEPOS.  Updated March 2013 to include Round 2.
  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Repairs and Replacements Fact sheet – is designed to provide education on repairs and replacements under the DMEPOS competitive bidding program. It includes information on which items and services can be provided by contract versus non-contract suppliers. Updated March 2013 to include Round 2.
  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Traveling Beneficiary Fact Sheet – is designed to provide education on DMEPOS suppliers that provide items to Medicare beneficiaries who reside in or travel to areas impacted by the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program. It includes information on how to determine whether a beneficiary is in a traveling status, how to properly bill Medicare for the item, and how Medicare will determine the payment amount.   • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Physicians and Other Treating Practitioners Who Are Enrolled Medicare DMEPOS Suppliers Fact Sheet – regarding an exception to the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program which allows physicians and other treating practitioners who are enrolled Medicare DMEPOS suppliers to furnish competitively bid walkers in a CBA to their own patients, without submitting a bid and being selected as a contract supplier.  Updated March 2013 to Include Round 2
  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Hospitals That Are Not Contract Suppliers Fact Sheet – regarding an exception to the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program which allows hospitals to furnish competitively bid walkers in a CBA to their own patients, without submitting a bid and being selected as a contract supplier. Updated March 2013 to include Round 2.
  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Grandfathering Requirements for Non-Contract Suppliers Fact Sheet – designed to educate non-contract suppliers on grandfathering requirements under the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program.
  • The "DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Non-Contract Supplier Fact Sheet" is designed to educate on requirements for non-contract suppliers in the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program. Updated March 2013 to include Round 2.
  • The "DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Enteral Nutrition Fact Sheet" is designed to educate suppliers on rules for providing enteral nutrition under the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program.  Updated March 2013 to include Round 2
  • The "DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Mail Order Diabetic Supplies Fact Sheet" is designed to educate suppliers on rules regarding providing mail order diabetic test-strips under the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program.  Updated March 2013 to include Round 2.
