Round 2 Product Category Information

Product categories are groupings of related items that are used to treat a similar medical condition. For Round 2, we are expanding the list of items bid in the Round 1 Rebid (see below for Round 1 Rebid items) by combining standard manual wheelchairs, standard power wheelchairs, and scooters to form a new expanded standard mobility device product category, expanding bidding for support surfaces throughout all Round 2 areas and adding negative pressure wound therapy pumps and related supplies and accessories as an additional product category. Group 2 complex rehabilitative power wheelchairs, which were bid in the Round One Rebid, are not included in Round 2.

The product categories for Round 2 are:

• Oxygen, oxygen equipment, and supplies
• Standard (Power and Manual) wheelchairs, scooters, and related accessories
• Enteral nutrients, equipment, and supplies
• Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices and Respiratory Assist Devices (RADs) and related supplies and accessories
• Hospital beds and related accessories
• Walkers and related accessories
• Negative Pressure Wound Therapy pumps and related supplies and accessories
• Support surfaces (Group 2 mattresses and overlays)

National Mail Order Competition
CMS will be conducting a national mail order competition for diabetic testing supplies at the same time as the Round 2 competition. A list of the items in the national mail order competition and the associated Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes are available on the CBIC website.

Round 1 Rebid Product Category Information

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) designated the product categories for the Round 1 Rebid of the competitive bidding program.  Please note that these are the product categories that were selected for the initial Round 1 in 2007, except for negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), which is excluded from the Round 1 Rebid, and group 3 complex rehabilitative wheelchairs, which are excluded from the Round 1 Rebid as well as all subsequent rounds of competition.
