Continuing Education Credit Information

Many professional associations and organizations offer continuing education credit for participation in educational activities through the CMS MLN National Provider Call (NPC) Program that can be used towards keeping a license or certification current.

  • If you plan to participate in a MLN National Provider Call
Continuing education credits may be awarded by your professional licensing or certifying association or organization for participation in a NPC. If you are an individual who will be participating in one of our NPCs and you plan to request continuing education credit from your professional licensing or certifying association or organization, and if this entity requires proof of registration, you will personally need to register for the call through our NPC registration website.  CMS does not provide certificates as proof of participation. Please retain the confirmation email and call presentation materials for your records. If your professional association or organization is not listed below, please contact it directly for questions related to continuing education credit for participation in a NPC.

  • If you are an association or other professional organization
If you are an association or other professional organization that provides its members with continuing education credit for participation in a CMS MLN National Provider Call and you would like to be listed on our Continuing Education Credit Notification web page, please email us at NationalProviderCalls@cms.hhs.gov.

Please note: The continuing education statements below were provided to CMS by the entities listed. If you have questions concerning what you need to do to receive credit for participation in a CMS MLN NPC or any other questions related to continuing education credit, please contact your respective association or organization for guidance, not CMS.

    • American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
If you have attended or are planning to attend a CMS National Provider Conference Call, you should be aware that CMS does not provide certificates of attendance for these calls. Instead, the AAPC will accept your e-mailed confirmation and call description as proof of participation. Please retain a copy of your e-mailed confirmation for these calls as the AAPC will request them for any conference call you entered into your CEU Tracker if you are chosen for CEU verification. Members are awarded one (1) CEU per hour of participation.

    • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
AHIMA credential-holders may claim 1 CEU per 60 minutes of attendance at an educational program. Maintain documentation about the program for verification purposes in the event of an audit. A program does not need to be pre-approved by AHIMA, nor does a CEU certificate need to be provided, in order to claim AHIMA CEU credit. For detailed information about AHIMA's CEU requirements, see the Recertification Guide on AHIMA's web site.

    • American Medical Billing Association (AMBA)
AMBA will accept your e-mailed confirmation as proof of participation. Print the e-mail and attach it to AMBA's CEU form. Members are awarded one (1) CEU per hour of participation.

    • Association of Professional Medical Billers & Administrators (APMBA)
APMBA will accept your e-mailed confirmation as proof of participation. Print the e-mail and fax it to the APMBA. Members are awarded one (1) CEU per hour of participation.

    • The Commission on Dietetic Registration, the Credentialing Agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
The Commission on Dietetic Registration awards one (1) CPEU for every one (1) contact hour of live (real-time), CPE-eligible education provided.  CDR-credentialed practitioners who participate in these calls may receive CPE credit for them, provided that the content is “dietetics-related” as defined in CDR’s Professional Development Portfolio Guide, and so long as the content of the call matches the Learning Plan of the participant.  In order to receive CPE credit for participation in this activity, CDR-credentialed practitioners must log this activity in their Activity Logs under CPE Activity Type 170, and must also retain for their documentation either a certificate of completion/attendance or an agenda/timing outline from the activity.

    • Commission on Paraoptometric Certification (CPC)
If you are attending a CMS National Provider Conference Call, you should be aware that CMS does not provide certificates of attendance for these calls. CPC will accept your e-mailed confirmation as proof of participation. Print the e-mail and include with the renewal statement at the time the certification is due.  CPOCs will be awarded one (1) CEU per hour of participation.

Certified Medical Billing Specialists (CMBS) will receive one CEU per hour of instruction through the CMS National Provider Calls.  Please submit your confirmation email with webinar underlined for credit.

    • Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM)
PAHCOM Certified Medical Managers (CMMs) and Health Information Technology Certified Managers for Physician Practice (HITMC-PPs) may claim one Continuing Education Unit (CEU) for every hour of educational instruction received at CMS educational programs relevant to your specific certification.  PAHCOM will issue a CEU certificate for your records upon receipt of your e-mail to ceu@pahcom.com including the topic, date, and length of call.  While a certificate is not necessary to claim CEUs in your online PAHCOM CEU Log, it is necessary in case of an audit.  Always keep proof of CEUs on file!
