State Reports

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed aggregated data on the prevalence of chronic conditions and multiple chronic conditions as well as utilization and Medicare spending for beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions for the 50 U.S. states and Washington, DC.

These state reports on chronic conditions are available for the years 2007-2011. Report 1 presents the prevalence of 15 common chronic conditions among Medicare beneficiaries and allows for the comparison of a specific state to national estimates. Report 2 presents the prevalence, utilization and Medicare spending for Medicare beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions and allows for the comparison of a specific state to national estimates. In addition, there is a brief “Overview” section describing the data source, the sample population and the methodology for calculating these indicators.
