Overview

Tribal Affairs Group

CMS maintains its commitment to maximize American Indian/Alaska Native access to Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through consultation with Tribes, culturally competent outreach and education, and other specific programs.

CMS understands the unique health needs of American Indians/Alaska Natives, and acknowledges the government to government relationship between the United States Government and Tribal Governments.

CMS has a knowledgeable team responsible for AI/AN issues at the central office and Native American Contacts (NAC) each of the 10 Regional offices. You can learn about American Indian/Alaska Native health and CMS through the links on this page.

Consultation with Tribal Leaders

CMS seeks the guidance of Tribal leaders on the delivery of health care for AI/ANs served by Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children's Health Insurance Program or any other health care program funded by CMS. CMS accomplishes this through the Tribal Technical Advisory Group (TTAG) and Tribal Consultation with federally recognized Tribes in the Regions.
