An Overview of the One-Stop Career Center System

The One-Stop Career Center system brings together a wide variety of Federal, state, and local program partners, integrates the provision of their services and provides a full-range of help to job seekers and employers, all under one roof. The following is only a sampling of the many services One-Stop Career Centers provide:

  • Job-search and job-placement assistance
  • Free access to computers, Internet, fax machines, and printers for job search purposes
  • Access to millions of job listings
  • Labor market information
  • Assistance preparing resumes
  • Comprehensive assessment of job skills, abilities, aptitudes, and needs
  • Career counseling
  • Workshops on topics such as interviewing skills
  • Case management
  • Pre-vocational services
  • Information on Unemployment Insurance
  • Individual employment plans
  • Training in literacy skills
  • Rehabilitative services
  • Referrals to training, education, and related supportive services (such as transportation and child care)
  • Outreach and recruitment for business

One-Stops are convenient to most communities in the United States. Services are advised by business and focus on customer choice. There are two types of One-Stop Career Centers: comprehensive and affiliate. Comprehensive One-Stop Centers provide access to all the services described here either on-site, or through referral. Affiliate One-Stop Centers have some, but not all of the services available. When helping your client locate a local One-Stop Career Center, be sure to look for a comprehensive One-Stop Center.

When using www.servicelocator.org to locate a One-Stop Career Center, all the centers in the area are identified as comprehensive or affiliate, and you can view the available services for each center by clicking on the icon for "Detailed Info" next to each center listing. When using the toll-free help line at 1-877-US2-JOBS (1-877-872-5627) and TTY: 1-877-TTY-JOBS (1-877-889-5627) to locate a One-Stop Career Center in your area, ask for a comprehensive One-Stop Center.
