The SSI data file below shows the latest available IRF-specific data to compute an IRF's SSI ratio for the specified fiscal year (FY). An IRF may use this ratio as part of the formula to estimate their adjustment for low income patients (LIP) for a cost reporting period that begins subsequent to that specified FY. The file will be updated annually (usually each October/November). Please refer to Program Memorandum Transmittal A-01-131 below for further information on computing the LIP adjustment. (Please note that the NPRM and final rule areas of this website contain files with earlier SSI data that was used to estimate the LIP adjustments for rate setting purposes. Those data files contain the latest available data at the time the NPRM and final rule were published and may differ from the file below.)
Note to Providers on the FY 2007 IRF SSI Ratios On June 18, 2009, we published the FY 2007 inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) SSI ratios for the Low-Income Percentage (LIP) adjustment on our website. To be consistent with the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS), we are posting additional information on the FY 2007 IRF SSI ratios. The FY 2007 IRF SSI ratios remain unchanged. The additional information we have provided includes the number of Medicare Part A Fee-for-Service (FFS) patient days and the number of Medicare Advantage (MA) patient days in the numerator and denominator of the IRF SSI ratios. We note that there is no legal or policy distinction between the Medicare FFS and MA patient days in the IRF SSI ratios, and that it has been our longstanding policy to include both categories of Medicare patient days in the IRF SSI ratios, in accordance with the IPPS. This additional detail is for informational purposes only so that IRFs can have a better understanding of the data that comprises their IRF SSI ratios. Under the instructions of Change Request 6821, applicable IRFs that have not submitted all of their Medicare Advantage data for FY 2007 have until August 31, 2010, to submit data to be included in the FY 2007 IRF SSI ratios. We expect that the FY 2007 IRF SSI ratios will be revised and reposted on this page in 2011. Note to Providers on the FY 2008 IRF SSI Ratios As required by Change Request 6821, applicable IRFs that have not submitted all of their Medicare Advantage data for FY 2008 have until August 31, 2010 to submit data to be included in the FY 2008 IRF SSI ratios. Once we have collected the data, the FY 2008 IRF SSI ratios will be calculated, and we expect to post the FY 2008 IRF SSI ratios on this page in 2011.
