Coding Analysis for Labs (CAL) Tracking Sheet for Hepatitis Panel (Removal of ICD-9-CM Code 784.69, Other symbolic dysfunction, from the list of Codes Covered by Medicare) (CAG-00283N)

The current national coverage determination (NCD) for hepatitis panel includes ICD-9-CM code 784.69, Other symbolic dysfunction, in the list of ICD-9-CM Codes Covered by Medicare.  Upon review of the covered indications for a hepatitis panel in the NCD, it does not appear that this code flows from the narrative indications.  We believe it may have been placed on the covered code list in error.  We will be reviewing these codes more carefully with the benefit of public comment to make a determination if the code should be removed from the list of covered diagnoses.
