Coding Analysis for Labs (CAL) Tracking Sheet for Coding Guidelines for Urine Culture (CAG-00298N)

The Medicare laboratory negotiated NCDs include some general coding guidelines applicable to all of the NCDs. In addition, some NCDs, such as Urine Culture, Bacterial, contain additional guidelines applicable exclusively to that NCD. Several of the ICD-9-CM codes in the urine culture coding guideline number 1 have been superseded by annual updates to the ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes and the guideline is now out of date. We are soliciting public comment regarding updating of this coding guideline.

August 29, 2005 CMS opens a Coding Analysis issue on coding guideline number 1 for urine culture. CMS is requesting public comment before any changes are made to the list of non-covered codes. After considering the public comments, we will release a decision memorandum.
November 14, 2005 CMS posts a decision memorandum  on coding guideline number 1 for urine culture.
