Round 1 2017
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is required by law to recompete contracts under the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program at least once every three years. The Round 1 Recompete contract period for all product categories expires on December 31, 2016. Round 1 2017 contracts are scheduled to become effective on January 1, 2017.
CMS is conducting the Round 1 2017 competition for eight product categories in the same nine metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) as the Round 1 Recompete . Round 1 2017 competitive bidding areas (CBAs) have nearly the same ZIP codes as the Round 1 Recompete CBAs. However, certain ZIP codes have changed since Round 1 Recompete and CMS has updated the CBAs to reflect the changes. Also, CBAs that were located in multi-state MSAs have been defined so that no CBA is included in more than one state. As a result, the number of CBAs expanded from nine CBAs in Round 1 Recompete to 13 CBAs in the Round 1 2017 competition.
