Selecting ICD-10-CM Codes

To select an ICD-10-CM code, follow these steps:

• Step 1: Look up the term in the Alphabetic Index
• Step 2: Verify the code in the Tabular List

The Alphabetic Index helps you decide which section to refer to in the Tabular List. It doesn’t always give the full code.
