CME Courses for Laboratory Directors of Moderate Complexity Laboratories

The courses listed below are designed to meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirement at 42 CFR 493.1405(b)(2)(ii)(B).  Refer to the Related Links section below for specific program information.

  • University of Iowa –On-line computer assisted laboratory director course.  Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and are designated as an American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award (AMA PRA) category 1 credits.
  • COLA's Laboratory Director CME Certification course: Online 20 CME course covering the CLIA-defined responsibilities for the Laboratory Director.  Completion of the course qualifies licensed physicians to become directors of moderate complexity laboratories. Approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for CME credits.
  • COLA’s Annual Laboratory Enrichment Forum: An in-person 20 CME event covering the CLIA-defined responsibilities of the Laboratory Director.  Experienced laboratory directors and subject matter experts lead the track.  Completion of the course qualifies licensed physicians to become directors of moderate complexity laboratories.  Approved by the AAFP for CME credits.
  • LabUniversity Laboratory Director CME Program: Course contains eight online CME courses, in a flexible, self-paced format. Provides 20 CME elective credits approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Designed for licensed physicians looking to become directors of moderate complexity laboratories. This course meets CLIA requirements and quality systems standards in the areas of laboratory practice and director responsibilities.
