Puerto Rico Hospitals

For payment year 2018, the reporting period for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Puerto Rico is 90 consecutive days within the 2018 calendar year.

Section 602 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 added subsection (d) hospitals in Puerto Rico as eligible hospitals under the Medicare PI Program and extended the participation timeline for these hospitals. This enables these hospitals to not only receive Medicare PI payments but also be subject to the Medicare negative payment adjustments. These hospitals could begin participation for PI reporting periods in 2016. They must successfully demonstrate meaningful use by 2020 to avoid a negative payment adjustment in 2022. These hospitals could earn up to four consecutive years of Medicare PI payments.

Registration and attestation for eligible hospitals in Puerto Rico is now open. Eligible hospitals in Puerto Rico may use this step-by-step guide to create a QualityNet account for the PI Program. In 2018, these hospitals may attest to the Modified Stage 2 or Stage 3 objectives and measures.
