Donald Knode

Acting Deputy Director

Donald Knode currently serves as the Acting Deputy Director for the Office of Acquisition & Grants Management (OAGM) within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS.  As the Acting Deputy Director, he is responsible for working collaboratively with the Acting Director of OAGM to award and administer all CMS contracts and discretionary grants that are subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulation and established grant guidelines. 

Mr. Knode has over 36 years of experience in federal government procurement, and has worked at CMS for more than 15 years.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Knode has served in several acquisition leadership positions at CMS.  In his role as the Senior Technical Advisor in OAGM, he led several strategic projects and initiatives to improve and transform acquisition at CMS, and as the Director of the IT Contracts Group, he led the acquisition of over $2.4 billion annually for Information Technology (IT) products and services.  Before joining CMS, he served as the Operations Group Director for the Defense Contract Management Agency – Maryland and also was an intern with the U.S. Department of Air Force.

Mr. Knode holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Baltimore and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Towson State University.  In addition, Mr. Knode completed the Federal Executive Institute’s Leadership for a Democratic Society Program.
