[PHI Redacted] someone suffering with GD and can honestly say that he did really well emotionally when he was receiving psychiatric therapy. When he was not in therapy he would self mutilate and perform self-surgeries on himself due to his discontentment with his body. I would agree with Medicare (& other insurance plans) paying for psychiatric therapy for those suffering with GD, but I do not agree with paying for the reassignment surgery. I believe it falls under cosmetic surgery, which is something insurance plans do not pay for. I have witnessed that if someone with GD receives psychiatric therapy there is a better chance of the person not to suffer from depression, anxiety, anger, etc. and actually live a more peaceful life. Pay for the therapy, not the surgery. ~ thanks for asking public opinion!
