Noridian's Response to Provider Recommendations for Cataract Surgery in Adults (for comment period ending 04/10/2017)

Response To Comments

Comments were made regarding formal documentation of functional problems due to visual loss from the cataracts, and the language was adjusted to remove “formal” from the policy.

Editorial changes were made to correct language under complex cataract surgery to state “Malyugin ring or other pupil expansion device”, “Beehler expansion device or comparable iris-expansion instrumentation” and “pupil that will not dilate”.

Other more extensive comments from the California Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons were made to clarify issues regarding indications for cataract surgery.

This led to re-alignment of some of the introduction and documentation statements, but language, intent of the section and coding was not affected.
