Late Enrollment

People who don’t enroll in a drug plan when first eligible may pay a penalty to enroll in a plan later if they don’t keep creditable coverage.

Most people who wait until after their Part D IEP ends to join a plan will see their premiums go up 1% for every month they waited to enroll. They usually must pay this penalty as long as they have Medicare drug coverage.
