If people qualify for Extra Help and don’t choose a drug plan, Medicare will automatically enroll them in a plan.

If people qualify for Extra Help due to limited income or resources, they may not have to pay a late-enrollment penalty, or they may get help paying the penalty. This penalty doesn’t apply to people who have creditable coverage.

To find out if they qualify for Extra Help, people with Medicare can contact the SSA.
