                  M3PI Processor--Version 5.12B

                        **************
                          IMPORTANT!
                        **************

Version 5.12B incorporates a single substantive change from 5.12. That
substantive change was to fix an error in the 5.12 RUGs Manual Calculator
and allow the manual calculator screen to accept the valid codes 7 and 8
for the AA8b item. These two codes were incorrectly excluded from entry
on the 5.12 manual calculator screen.

Version 5.12B also includes a few cosmetic changes:
  1. In 5.12 the default RUGs group was labeled as "BCI" several times. In
5.12B, these labels were corrected to "BC1".
  2. Two control files (MDSSTRU1.DBF and VARLIST2.DBF) were incorrectly
dated in 5.12 resulting in occasional "nuisance" warnings. In 5.12B,
these files were dated correctly to avoid these unnecessary warnings.

This version of the M3PI can be used to classify Medicare residents
for the Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS) to be implemented
nationally on 07/01/1998. To use this M3PI processor for the PPS
make the following selections when you get to the "M3PI
Calculations Options Screen":

     1. Select the 44 group model.
     2. Select "Medicare PPS" as the calculation type.
     3. Select the appropriate PPS CMI for your facility
(rural vs. urban CMI set with correct set code/date).

NOTE: MDS 2.0 items T1b, T1c, and T1d must be completed on all
Medicare Preliminary 5 day assessments (AA8b = 1) and all
Medicare Readmission assessments (AA8B = 5) for proper
          Medicare PPS classification.
