                  M3PI Processor--Version 5.11B

                        **************
                          IMPORTANT!
                        **************

Version 5.11B incorporates a single change from 5.11. That change
is to allow for the new Medicare reason for assessment codes (7 and
8) in the AA8b item. These codes were implemented with the 1/30/98
revision to the MDS 2.0. These 2 AA8b codes accommodate Medicare
PPS 14-Day Assessments (AA8b = 7) and Medicare PPS Other Required
Assessments (AA8b = 8).

This version of the M3PI can be used to classify Medicare residents
in facilities starting Phase III of the Multistate Medicare Case Mix
and Quality Demonstration Project during 1997. To use this M3PI processor
for this purpose, make the following selections when you get to the
"M3PI Calculations Options Screen":

    1. Select the 44 group model.
    2. Select "Medicare Demo" as the calculation type.
    3. Select the appropriate CMI set for the state of interest.

NOTE: MDS 2.0 ITEMS T1b, T1c, AND T1d MUST BE COMPLETED ON ALL
MEDICARE PRELIMINARY 5 DAY ASSESSMENTS (AA8b = 1) AND ALL
MEDICARE READMISSION ASSESSMENTS (AA8B = 5) FOR PROPER
MEDICARE CLASSIFICATION IN THE MULTISTATE PROJECT.
