Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Approved HCPCS Codes and Payment Rates These files contain the procedure codes which may be performed in an ASC under the Medicare program as well as the ASC payment group assigned to each of the procedure codes. The ASC payment group determines the amount that Medicare pays for facility services furnished in connection with a covered procedure. For 2000 - 2006 files, go to the ASC Payment Rates Archive page (see the Left column). Note: These files contain material copyrighted by the American Medical Association.
NOTICE: Many ASC payment rates under the ASC payment system are established using payment rate information in the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). ASC Payment files have been revised to reflect retroactive provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the Affordable Care Act) Public Law 111-148, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, Public Law 111-152. The Affordable Care Act required retroactive changes to the CY 2010 OPPS and MPFS payment rates. The amended ASC payment files also include changes to the MPFS payment amounts as a result of corrections to the CY 2010 final rule (74 FR 60316). These payment rates are retroactive to January 1, 2010. Beginning in June 2010, Medicare contractors will be implementing revised payment files for ASC claims. These changes impact certain claims with dates of service from January 1, 2010 through May 31, 2010. The affected ASC payment indicators and rates have been updated in the revised Addenda AA and BB to the CY 2010 OPPS/ASC final rule with comment period posted December 31, 2009 on the CMS website at: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/ASCPayment/11_Addenda_Updates.asp Instructions regarding potential changes to these files resulting from Congressional action on the MPFS conversion factor will be forthcoming. Please watch your listserv and contractor's website for more information.
