Action Plan

Your ground ambulance provider may be able to lower the cost of your bill or set up a payment plan.

Learn about your rights.

As of November 15, 2021, 10 states have ground ambulance billing protections:

  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Vermont
  • West Virginia

Call the ground ambulance provider if they billed you for service in one of those states.

Tell them that you're aware of “surprise billing rules” (protections from unexpected out-of-network bills) for ground ambulance services. They may be able to reduce your bill.

Ask for a lower bill.

Providers (or their billing departments) can sometimes lower the price. They may also offer payment plans. Talk to your provider to learn about your options.
