Issue

On March 26, 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) convened a subcommittee of a Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) panel. The MEDCAC panel will consider which clinical endpoints in studies of devices to manage tremor in Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor should be of interest to CMS.

The purpose of the March 26 subcommittee meeting was to discuss in depth a literature-based Clinical Endpoints Review (CER) on this topic, review comments on the CER from three external neurology/neurosurgery physicians and assist CMS in formulating voting questions for the full panel meeting that will be held on June 25, 2025.

The full MEDCAC panel will review the CER and the expert commentary. By voting on specific questions and through discussion, MEDCAC panel members will advise CMS about the ideal clinical endpoints to measure in research studies on this topic, appropriate measurement instruments, definitions of minimal clinically important differences and adequate follow-up duration.
