Trump Administration Announces $122 Million to Expand Healthcare Access, Workforce and Innovation Across Virginia
This federal investment will help provide resources to rural health providers and expand access to care across the Commonwealth
The Trump Administration announced today that a $122 million investment is being delivered to improve health outcomes for Virginians through the federal Rural Health Transformation (RHTP). These investments will expand access to care by bringing more healthcare services closer to where people live. Funding will expand remote patient monitoring, virtual care, mobile clinics, maternal care and increase community paramedics.
The Trump Administration is also strengthening the healthcare workforce pipeline by creating more pathways into allied health careers, apprenticeships and earn-while-you-learn programs and delivering more credentialing opportunities in rural areas. While addressing access barriers and workforce shortages, this investment also targets innovation and better care coordination. From supporting early-stage health technology, to improving how providers share information, and coordinating care for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid— this funding will help transform rural healthcare across the Commonwealth.

Kennedy, Jr. “We are putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home. We are giving states the flexibility to build solutions around the people they serve, while demanding accountability for results. That is how we strengthen rural health, improve the lives of patients and families, and Make America Healthy Again.”

Today’s investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act— passed by Republicans in Congress and unanimously opposed by Democrats — delivering a historic $50 billion investment to help states transform the way healthcare is delivered in America.

These investments help deliver the initiatives and strategies designed to improve healthcare access, outcomes, workforce capacity, innovation, and long-term sustainability across rural Virginia. Today’s announcement is just one part of the larger overall funding amount being awarded to Virginia for fiscal year 2026.
Projects supported by the Rural Health Transformation Fund to Virginia include:
- Expand rural healthcare capacity and access: Growing remote patient monitoring, rural residency and provider training slots, community paramedicine, maternal care, and mobile/hybrid care models in underserved regions.
- Strengthen the healthcare workforce pipeline: By supporting allied health career pathways for students, apprenticeships and earn-to-learn programs, and expanded credentialing opportunities in rural areas.
- Drive innovation and coordination: Including a fund to help early-stage health tech companies scale digital solutions, efforts to improve provider interoperability and productivity, integrated care for those dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid, youth wellness initiatives, and ongoing program evaluation.
The Trump Administration is delivering on its commitment to strengthen rural America by investing in solutions that modernize technology to promote health and well-being for rural communities. Led by CMS, the RHTP is moving beyond the failed one-size-fits-all approach and giving rural communities the tools to build stronger, more innovative, and more sustainable health systems that deliver better care and better outcomes for the Americans they serve.
