CMS Finalizes New DMEPOS Accreditation Provisions to Enhance Program Integrity

CMS finalized significant changes to the DMEPOS accreditation program as part of our ongoing commitment to program integrity. These provisions, included in the CY 2026 Home Health Prospective Payment System final rule address vulnerabilities in the accreditation process and strengthen quality standards for DMEPOS suppliers.

Skilled Nursing Facilities: Report Expanded Ownership, Management, & Related Party Data

CMS will send revalidation notices to enrolled skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) from October - December 2024 to collect data on ownership, managerial, and related party information. Your Medicare Administrative Contractor will send you a revalidation notice:

• One-third of SNFs will get notices in October
• Two-thirds will get notices in November or December

ALL SNFs will have until January 1, 2026, to submit their revalidation. You must report this data on the revised Medicare Provider Enrollment Application Form (CMS-855A).  Click here (PDF) for detailed information on the parties to be reported and here (PDF) for instructions on completing your application via PECOS.  Please note that CMS will not be updating the online Medicare Revalidation List to include the SNF off-cycle revalidation schedule.

Hospice Certifying Enrollment

Effective June 3, 2024, CMS will require physicians who certify the need for hospice services to be enrolled in or opted-out of Medicare.  Refer to Hospice Certifying Enrollment Q&A (PDF) and Hospice Claims Edits for Certifying Physicians (PDF) for more information.
