Our mission is to ensure that all patients, residents and clients receiving care from Medicare and Medicaid-certified providers receive basic levels of quality and safety.  This page provides an overview of the Survey & Certification program, our partnerships with State Survey Agencies (SAs), key policy information, and program-specific resources.  




Mission & Priorities Document (MPD)

The MPD is a document that directs and prioritizes QSOG’s, the Survey & Operations Group’s (SOG), and the SA’s workload.  CMS updates it each year to reflect: 

  • regulatory changes 
  • adjustments in budget allocations
  • new initiatives
  • new statutory requirements 
  • survey and certification functions
  • work priorities and planning recommendations to support SAs
  • funding allocation
