UPDATE: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is instituting a moratorium on the carotid artery stenting (CAS) data submission requirement under section B4 of the national coverage determination (NCD) for Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) (Pub. 100-03, 20.7).
Effective until otherwise notified, facilities approved by CMS to perform CAS will no longer submit data to Fu Associates, as had been required every April 1 and October 1.
With the exception of the CAS data submission requirement, all other NCD requirements remain in effect. Therefore, facilities must continue to submit recertification letters describing how they continue to meet the minimum facility standards identified in section B4 of the NCD (/medicare-coverage-database/details/ncd-details.aspx?NCDId=201). Recertification letters are due every two years from each facility’s effective date as identified on the website of approved CAS facilities (/Medicare/Medicare-General-Information/MedicareApprovedFacilitie/Carotid-Artery-Stenting-Facilities). For example, a facility with an effective date listed on this website of 10/1/2014, must submit a recertification letter by 10/1 of every even numbered year (10/1/2016, 10/1/2018, etc.). As noted in the NCD, recertification letters must be sent to:
Director, Coverage and Analysis Group
7500 Security Boulevard, Mailstop S3-02-01
Baltimore, MD 21244
We are accepting certification letters electronically rather than via hardcopy mail - CMS_CASMailbox@cms.hhs.gov
Please do not send data or any other information to Fu Associates. Please limit information sent to CMS to only recertification letters every two years. Any other information sent to CMS (for example, data) will be returned to the sender upon receipt.
