Read the Summary of Benefits and Coverage. Check to see if your new health plan covers the care you need.
Health insurance companies must give you a Summary of Benefits and Coverage upon request.
The summary is written in plain language. It explains how much your plan costs and what services aren’t covered by the plan. The last page of the summary shows example situations, like having a baby or managing type 2 diabetes. It lists how much those situations typically cost on the health plan.

Find an in-network provider.
Using an in-network health care provider will save you money. Out-of-network providers are more expensive. And they might not be covered by your health plan.
Here’s how to find an in-network provider:
- Call your health plan or check their provider directory
- Ask your friends and family for recommendations
Once you find a provider you’d like to use, double-check that they’re in-network. Call the provider’s office. Ask them if they’re accepting new patients, and confirm they are in your health plan’s network.
