Follow these steps to clear up confusion about medical bills and reduce costs.

 

Contact the VA if you have questions about your bill.

Call the VA, or contact them online.

You can also visit your nearest VA health center and talk with a member of the center’s revenue staff.

Dispute your VA copayment or balance amount.

You have the right to dispute all, or part, of your VA copayment or balance amount.

To avoid late charges, you’ll need to dispute the debt within 30 days of getting your bill.

Ask for VA financial hardship assistance.

You can ask for:

  • Debt relief for your current VA copayment debt
  • A repayment plan to pay your debt over time
  • An exemption from future copays
