Summary:

The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis project will test an intervention that aims to provide quality family planning services to women who are at the highest risk for unintended pregnancy using a contraceptive provision model developed by the Contraceptive CHOICE Project (CHOICE). CHOICE demonstrated that removing barriers to choice of contraception increased the use of long-acting reversible contraception and significantly reduced the rate of unintended pregnancies. This project will test implementation of the CHOICE model for primarily Medicaid beneficiaries in the St. Louis area including: 1) structured, evidence-based contraceptive counseling; 2) education of providers about long-acting reversible contraceptive methods and evidence-based guidelines for contraceptive provision; 3) removal of patient barriers to family planning services; and 4) post-visit contraceptive support.
