Retire

Retire Phase

During the Retire Phase the system is successfully shut down in a controlled manner. Extensive planning defines all tasks necessary to decommission the system, using a detailed System Disposition Checklist. Any remaining activities or functionalities must transition to a different process or system. During this phase, the Business Owner closes out relevant contracts and sends data to an archive according to the CMS System of Record (SORN) or other guidelines. The business owner must dispose of hardware in accordance with Federal best practices.

Key Objectives

  1. Archive any data according to the SORN, if present, or other Federal regulation.
  2. Close out all related contractual actions and agreements related to the system
  3. Properly dispose of hardware or infrastructure used by the system.

Exit Criteria

  1. Business Owner Attests to Completing System Disposition Checklist (download below)
