Rural Maternal Health Care
Maternal Health Care in Rural Communities
A key objective of the CMS Rural Health Strategy is to leverage partnerships with stakeholders nationally, as well as at the regional, state, and local levels. One component in accomplishing this is working closely with partners and stakeholders to raise awareness on maternal health and access to care in rural communities. This section contains resources related to improving maternal health outcomes in rural communities.
CMS released an issue brief, Improving Access to Maternal Health Care in Rural Communities, which focuses on access to care for women in rural communities before, during, and after pregnancy. This issue brief was developed by CMS to provide background information on the scope of this problem and to focus attention on the need for national, state, and community-based organizations to collaborate on developing an action plan to improve access to maternal health care and improve outcomes for rural women and their babies.
