Program Integrity: Personal Care Services (PCS)
Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) provide opportunities for Medicaid beneficiaries to receive services in their own home or community rather than institutional settings. These programs serve a variety of targeted populations, such as people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or mental illnesses.
Personal Care Services (PCS) are included within HCBS. PCS provide for individuals who need assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, ambulation, or feeding. PCS can also include assistance with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, and money management.
This page contains an overview of PCS and common payment issues.
